As a kid, my father had cleverly (sadly!) programmed MTV out of existence via the remote control. So I ended up watching a lot of American Gladiator. Maybe this is why, to me, working with AI feels like a wrestling match — a constant push and pull, a struggle to coax something fresh and original out of a system predisposed to give me the ordinary.
In this new episode of Dream Logic, 'Wrestling with Originality,' I talk about what this metaphorical grappling with generative AI feels like. I reveal one way in which I shape characters through a term I call hyper collage. And I question what we can really call our own when it comes to art in this emergent medium. I'm looking forward to featuring guest artists, creatives, and academics in upcoming conversations.
